| Most people don't know that the "i" in baby idesign stands for Ilene. With so much of my personality reflected in the company, it's no surprise that my official nickname is now baby i. When I was young I won "most enthusiastic" in kindergarten and was told I had a "huge imagination." At the time, those words sounded scary and I thought I was in trouble. Now, I really appreciate vocabulary. Mom said I had great handwriting for a lefty and made me write thank-you letters to everyone for everything. Wow, aren't we grateful for those etiquette lessons...how do moms always know? |

First job out of college was for New York Magazine. There I held the position of Art Director for Promotion and Advertising and had the creative dream job for years. Ready for my next challenge in life, I finally left there to start my own design firm, idesign, llc. With many great clients in the areas of fashion, food, publishing, media and the arts, I learned to design outside of magazines.
Like most entrepreneurs, there was another grand idea in the back of my head. Only this time it was for a market I knew nothing about personally; the baby market. I was always good at trend spotting but now cute seemed scary! After designing some new and distinct birth announcements for friends, I knew I was onto something...
The baby market was exploding and I saw an opportunity to bring innovative design to a huge and growing marketplace. It was time to blend my creative talents and business skills together...
In 2004, I developed and launched a brand of modern-meets-traditional stationery products for the baby and family markets. I had officially given birth to a new company division, baby idesign.....after all....isn¹t that what a newborn is to a family?
Today our custom stationery products are sold in hundreds of stores nationwide and online. We've received national press from the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, The New York Post and every prenatal and child¹s magazine in between. Even celebrity mom and dads know who we are!
In 2007, I won the prestigious Make Mine A Million $ Business Contest for women entrepreneurs. This contest founded by OPEN from American Express and it¹s partner Count Me In, recognized both myself and baby idesign nationally as a forward-thinking company bound for great entrepreneurial growth and success.
Starting and growing a business is incredibly humbling. Putting yourself out there...well, it¹s a bit unnerving....need I say more... but it keeps life exciting and challenging...and the growth of baby idesign is a vital part of who I am today.
Our stationery products make people happy...so, that makes me happy. And like we say around here...
